When Should My Child Start Preschool?

Camping Day- Life in Christ Preschool, Albertville, MN.

There are several factors that figure in to why children should attend preschool.  The easiest way to decide is to examine what your goals are for sending your child to preschool.  Is it because your child is shy and you’d like to have them socialize more with other children?   Are you interested in Kindergarten readiness (learning how to act in a classroom setting?

Whatever your reason is, every child is different.  Absolutely every single one.  Every child handles preschool differently and every child learns differently.

Getting ready for kindergarten involves more than just learning the ABCs. New social experiences like taking turns and going to school for an entire day need to be considered as well. Kindergarten teachers will tell you that the students who are ready to learn are those who come into school with good social and behavior-management skills.

At Life in Christ Preschool, we offer a 2- day a week class that is perfect for 3-year old’s. and 4-year-olds with little or no school experience. The class lasts 2.5 hours. This limited learning time is the perfect length of time to expose your little student to a learning experience that will include pre-reading skills, an introduction to letters and number formations, and most important, practice listening and following in a classroom setting. During our circle times and music times, we emphasize teaching students how to raise their hand, take turns, and share the teacher's attention.

Preschool Listening and Communication Goals

  • Listen attentively

  • Raise hands or wait to speak. We help children to learn basic manners, through story reading and role playing.

  • Act on instruction and repeat spoken directions

  • Engage in question-and-answer dialogue with classmates and teachers

Another factor to consider about our preschool is the small class size we offer. This year 2019, we enrolled 17 students in our Sheep Class. Small Class Size Benefits:• Children in smaller classes tend to work well as a group and bond closely to one another, which makes for a secure environment.• Teachers are better able to identify a student’s strengths and areas where improvement is needed, so they can help address the needs of everyone in the class.• Smaller classes are usually less stressful, as fewer conflicts arise.
